Cumbernauld Theatre Trust is committed to upholding the Scottish Government’s Fair Work First policy. We aspire to foster an organisational culture where employees are fully engaged in our mission, supported through continuous training and development opportunities, and where we actively promote positive approaches to ensure CTT continues to be an adaptable, responsive and innovative workplace. Our culture and policies are aligned to the Fair Work First principles, further demonstrated by the following:
We believe in empowering the voices of our employees and have established various avenues for engagement. This includes regular all-staff meetings with the CEO, conducting employee surveys, and working collaboratively with Unions to represent staff and shape policies affecting our employees. Cumbernauld Theatre Trust values the culture of partnership working that has been established with Trade Union Colleagues and will continue to work together to develop transparent mechanisms for employee voice and engagement founded on trust and respect. BECTU have active membership within the team and we are members of ITC. We also work closely with Equity, hosting them at our productions. We have also established a staff representative who regularly engages with senior management to discuss and address employee concerns.
We uphold a fair and transparent recruitment process, advertising all job opportunities through our website and social media platforms. Additionally, we invest in ongoing training for all staff, aligning with both organisational priorities and individual professional development goals. To ensure diversity from the top, we conduct skills audits for recruitment of Board Members. We are currently developing a structured and goal-oriented staff Coaching programme where the focus is on skill development, helping coaches to gain self-awareness for personal growth, set goals, develop action plans, and track progress towards their objectives.
We are dedicated to offering meaningful work with reliable income through contracts based on reasonable hourly rates. Zero-hours contracts are available as an option for staff who prioritise flexibility. We are a Living Wage employer, this can be confirmed on the living wage website.
Cumbernauld Theatre’s minimum pay rate meets the Real Living Wage, consistently exceeding the National Living Wage and the Minimum Wage for many years. This commitment also applies to the rates offered to consultants and creatives, who are paid fees in line with industry body guidelines. We are guided by Scottish Artist Union, ITC, BECTU, Equity, Musicians Union, Scottish Society of Playwrights – Rates of Pay.
Cumbernauld Theatre does not engage in ‘fire and rehire’ practices.
We prioritise promoting fulfillment and a sense of belonging among our employees through engagement in staff events and promoting wellbeing initiatives. We invest in training, learning, and skills development to prepare employees for current and future roles.
All employees have the right to be treated with dignity and respect, and are individually accountable for treating others in a similar manner. The promotion of respect within the realm of fair work is upheld through various means:
Through comprehensive organisational policies that encompass equal opportunities and address issues such as bullying, harassment, discrimination, and victimisation.
Through practices promoting dignity at work, including clearly defined policies and procedures communicated to all staff, outlining unacceptable behaviours, reporting channels, and associated consequences.
Through training and awareness initiatives aimed at fostering an understanding of dignity at work, covering topics such as Diversity and Inclusion, Respectful Communication, Unconscious Bias, and Conflict Resolution.
Through leadership commitment, with leaders dedicated to leading by example, holding individuals accountable for their conduct, and actively intervening to address inappropriate behaviour.
By cultivating a supportive environment that empowers employees to speak up, seek assistance, and support one another, while also providing access to counselling services and promoting a healthy work-life balance.
We prioritise the health and safety of our employees, going above and beyond our legal obligations. Flexible working arrangements are offered to all employees, and we work closely with individuals to accommodate their needs in balancing work and family life.
Thank you for your attention to this statement, and we remain committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive workplace environment at Cumbernauld Theatre Trust.
