There is plenty happening at Cumbernauld Theatre just now. We wanted to take a moment to update you on where we are at, what is coming up, and what is happening behind the scenes as we plan for the future.
Our programme is packed with music, theatre, film and community events running right through until March 2026. We would love to see both familiar faces and new audiences at everything from the Folk Club’s Summer Hoolie next week to Wonder Fools Òran, our People’s Theatre Company with Connolly’s Cumbernauld Flourish, Senior Dance Club, Youth Theatre and this year’s panto Baltic with Ginger and Jester Productions.
Behind the scenes, interim CEO Patricia Stead has been with us for two months. She has been working closely with the team and consultants to make sure the organisation is in the best financial shape to prepare for the next phase. Currently that phase, from April 2026, sees the loss of Creative Scotland funding support and means we need to be ready for significant change.
Our priority is making sure the work Cumbernauld Theatre has delivered for over 60 years, and the incredible new Lanternhouse venue, can continue to benefit our audiences and communities well into the future. We are working through various ways to achieve that and are in discussions with both North Lanarkshire Council and Creative Scotland. We are grateful for their time and engagement.
By early October, we hope to have made a decision about our future, along with a clear plan to manage the transition. We will need the support of everyone who values Cumbernauld Theatre, and we will be launching a campaign in the autumn that we hope you will get behind. In the meantime, if you would like to help, please get in touch.
A new panto Baltic, written by Jerry Taylor, comes to our main stage from Saturday 22 November to Sunday 24 December. Take a sneak peak into rehearsals.

Cumbernauld’s Big Variety Bash is now sold out, but you can still get involved by buying raffle tickets to support Cumbernauld Theatre Trust. Tickets are £1 per strip and you don’t need to be at the event to take part. The draw will be made during the Big Variety Bash on Sunday 30 November.
