Save Cumbernauld Theatre: Campaign Relaunch

Cumbernauld Theatre has been part of this community for over 60 years. It is where young people grow in confidence, older generations come together, and audiences of all ages experience music, theatre, dance and film close to home.

Earlier this year, we launched the #SaveCumbernauldTheatre campaign, following the news that our application for continued multi-year funding from Creative Scotland was unsuccessful. Since then, under new leadership, we have been developing a sustainable plan that puts the community at the heart of everything we do.

Despite months of constructive talks, Creative Scotland has confirmed that transition funding will not be extended into 2026. Without further support, Cumbernauld Theatre Trust will not be able to continue beyond next year. We are in active discussions with government, funders and companies, but community support will also be essential if we are to secure the future.

Next year marks Cumbernauld’s 70th anniversary as a New Town. We want to celebrate that milestone with a full programme rooted in creativity, community and connection. Without urgent support, the 70th year could instead mark the permanent closure of this cultural asset.

We believe our community deserves better. That is why today, we have relaunched our campaign and are inviting you to stand with us.

This is your theatre. Please help us protect its future.
