About Us

Cumbernauld Theatre: Uniting through sustainable arts for positive change in Scotland.

Cumbernauld Theatre is a producing theatre at the heart of our community. We make and present bold, meaningful work that brings people together and reflects life in Scotland today.

Our programme includes new plays, musicals, touring theatre, contemporary dance, live music and comedy. We work with professional artists from across Scotland and the UK, and invite local people to be part of the creative process. From drama to dance and multi-arts, we also offer lots of ways for our community to get involved at Lanternhouse through our Take Part programme.

As a producing theatre, our approach is distinctly non-traditional. It is an approach that is rooted in our proud history as leaders in the community arts movement of the 1970’s and 1980’s. We ask the artists we create with to understand our local troubles and challenges. We aim to make our town a better place through our creative ideas and practice, by questioning what has always been the same and by celebrating those who have been missing from our stages.

We believe the arts can inspire change. We champion inclusive stories, support sustainable ways of working and offer creative opportunities for everyone. Our process invites people from our community to be part of the making of theatre and to work with Theatre Directors, Actors, Designers and Managers who are similarly invested.
