Community Gathering

Cumbernauld Theatre invites you on Sunday 10th May for our Community Gathering. Join us for a day of performances, workshops, live music,  Asian and Afro Caribbean food and film screenings, as we come together to celebrate diversity and inclusion. Everyone is welcome and everything is completely free, but you must prebook your places for the workshops and film screening via Cumbernauld Theatre box office.  

Acting Workshop with Atta Yaqub

Join Scottish actor Atta Yaqub (Ae Fond Kiss…, T2 Trainspotting, Lip Service) for an interactive acting workshop for ages 8–16. Using games and practical exercises, this session is a chance to explore performance, build confidence and try something new in a relaxed, welcoming space.

Dance Workshop with THREE60

Join THREE60 for an interactive dance workshop for ages 8–16. One of Scotland’s leading groups specialising in street dance and African and Caribbean styles, THREE60 has been building and supporting the dance community for over a decade. This session is a chance to explore movement, build confidence and try something new.

Workshop times: 13.15 – 14.00 / 14.15 – 15.00 / 15.15 – 16.00

Live Music: Hardeep Deerhe (Sodhi)

Enjoy a live café set from tabla player Sodhi (Talking Tabla Scotland). A Glasgow-based musician and composer, Sodhi is trained in Indian classical music and has spent years developing his practice across performance, collaboration and education. His work centres on the tabla, combining traditional techniques with contemporary influences and a wide range of global sounds.

He has performed across Scotland as part of festivals, events and community programmes, often working across artforms and alongside other musicians and dancers. His performances are rooted in rhythm and improvisation, offering a distinctive and expressive live music experience.

Film Screening: Umrao Jaan

Umrao Jaan (1981), a Bollywood restored 4K cult classic, brings its timeless tale of love, longing, and poetry to life on an epic scale. The film traces the journey of a young girl abducted and raised in a Lucknow kotha, who becomes the legendary courtesan and poet Umrao Jaan. Celebrated for her beauty and artistry yet bound by fate, her story unfolds as a haunting reflection on desire, resilience and the search for freedom.

From Edinburgh via M9 to Cumbernauld 38.7 miles

Drive from M9 to Cumbernauld.

Join and continue on the M9.

Take the exit towards M876

Continue onto M876

Merge onto M80

At junction 6, take the A8011 exit to Cumbernauld/Castlecary/B816

Keep left at the fork, follow signs for Cumbernauld/A8011

Merge onto A8011

Take the B8054 exit towards Abronhill/Lenziemill/S. Carbrain.
Continue onto B8054 and at the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto Kildrum Rd.
Turn right into Lanternhouse and Cumbernauld Academy car park.

From Glasgow via M80 to Cumbernauld

Drive from M80 to Cumbernauld.

Take exit 4A from M80

At junction 13, Use the left 2 lanes to take the M80 exit to Stirling/Kincardine Br

Continue onto M80

At junction 4A, Use the left 2 lanes to exit towards Kilsyth

Take Glasgow Rd/A8011 and S Carbrain Rd

At Back O’Hill Roundabout, take the 4th exit

Continue onto Glasgow Rd/A8011

Take the B8039 exit towards Airdrie/A73/Blairlinn/Lenziemill/S. Carbrain

Continue onto Jane’s Brae/B8039

Use the left lane to take the slip road to S. Carbrain

Merge onto S Carbrain Rd

At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto Kildrum Rd

Turn right into Lanternhouse and Cumbernauld Academy car park.
