Cumbernauld Folk Club: Luke Daniels & The Cobhers

Traditional Music

Come along and experience the fine mixture of traditional and folk music, storytelling and good company. This brand-new monthly music night hosts a leading headliner with support from local musicians from in and around Cumbernauld. The theatre bar is also open throughout the night of joyously irresistible music. So, thig a-steach – come in and enjoy yourself!

Experience the unique and dynamic sound of The Cobhers, the folk band formed in 2019 by Luke to bring traditional music to new audiences. Their captivating performances blend original folk tunes with unexpected covers, seamlessly translated into the folk idiom. From their reimagining of classic disco hits like Staying Alive by the Bee Gees and Pick Up The Pieces by The Average White Band, The Cobhers deliver compelling interpretations that rise above pastiche and parody.

Following the successful release of their debut album produced by Paul Savage, who has previously worked with acclaimed artists like King Creosote, Bella Hardy and Paulo Nutini, the band is working with Scotland’s Heritage Lottery Fund to create innovative learning materials for school children in North Lanarkshire. Don’t miss your chance to catch them live at various festivals in 2022, including Wickham, Broadstairs and Costa Del Folk, and on their upcoming UK tour in Spring 2023. The Cobhers are committed to supporting young and emerging performers from the UK folk scene, including previous BBC Young Traditional Musicians of the Year winners and students from Newcastle Uni and Royal Conservatoire Scotland’s folk music degree courses. Their music is a celebration of cutting-edge folk and is designed to engage audiences with a unique blend of pop covers that are sure to be familiar to all.

Everything is attacked with such life-affirming urgency and a panoramic feelgood factor that is unrelenting.
