Funding Update from Cumbernauld Theatre Trust

Cumbernauld Theatre Trust has secured up to £300,000 of strategic investment from the Scottish Government, providing important short-term stability and helping support future planning.

Following discussions with Cabinet Secretary Angus Robertson and his team, the Scottish Government has committed £150,000 in 2026/27, with the potential for a further £150,000 in 2027/28. This investment recognises the role the theatre plays locally and the strength of the case made for its continued operation.

This support comes alongside £100,000 awarded through Creative Scotland’s Open Fund, which will support a community engagement programme connected to Cumbernauld’s 70th anniversary in 2026.

The campaign has been supported throughout by Cumbernauld and Kilsyth MSP Jamie Hepburn, alongside cross-party backing from Katrina Murray MP, Mark Griffin MSP, Gillian Mackay MSP, Meghan Gallacher MSP and local councillors.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who has supported Cumbernauld Theatre over recent months. Donations, messages of support and shared stories from local residents, audiences and industry peers have played a vital role in making this progress possible.

While this funding marks an important step forward, continued public support remains essential as we work towards a more secure, long-term future.

Cumbernauld Theatre remains open and active, with Baltic currently playing to enthusiastic audiences until Christmas Eve, and a programme of fundraising events planned over the coming months.
