For over 50 years, Cumbernauld Theatre has been a home for original Scottish theatre-making, innovative live performance and a thriving participatory arts programme. Each year, more than 40,000 audience members, artists and participants pass through its doors to enjoy a diverse and inclusive programme that inspires, challenges and brings people together.

At its core, Cumbernauld Theatre has always been a producing company. Known for creating bold new work, commissioning original productions and supporting artists to tell meaningful stories, it has long played an important role in Scotland’s cultural life. While the company is no longer able to produce original work at this time, we believe strongly in the value of what it offers. With the right support, that work can return.

Since the beginning of the year, the organisation has been navigating significant challenges following the loss of multi-year funding. Behind the scenes, our team has been working hard to shape the programme for the year ahead and to secure the future of our work. We are pleased to share some positive developments: North Lanarkshire Council has confirmed the continuation of its core grant, and Creative Scotland has awarded Transition Funding through its support programme. This provides a period of financial stability and tailored advice, helping the organisation to plan with greater confidence through to April 2026.

We are in a period of change. While long-term plans continue to take shape, we aim to deliver the best programme we can for our audiences. The support we have received so far has been extraordinary and we are incredibly grateful.
