Loveable factory protest in 1982

As part of Cumbernauld’s 70th anniversary celebrations, we’re looking to reconnect with women who were involved in the Loveable Bra Factory protest in Cumbernauld in 1982.

Women at the Loveable factory organised the protest in response to threats to jobs at the local plant, which was ultimately successful.

We’re looking to hear from women who took part in the occupation, or who have a connection to the campaign and would be happy to share their memories and experiences with us as part of Cumbernauld’s 70th anniversary celebrations.

The project forms part of a wider programme marking Cumbernauld’s 70th anniversary, supported through Creative Scotland’s Open Fund. Celebrations began this month with a free Community Gathering, with further events planned throughout the year including another gathering in August and a new production from the People’s Theatre Company, to be announced in June.

Stand & Deliver

We would also love to hear from women connected to the protest who may be interested in attending National Theatre of Scotland’s upcoming production Stand & Deliver on Saturday 6 June. The play tells the story of the Lee Jeans factory occupation in Greenock in 1980/81, which inspired the Loveable factory protest in Cumbernauld the following year.
