Your Cumbernauld Story

Do you know the story behind this photograph?

It’s just one of the many stories, memories and connections that make up Cumbernauld’s history over the past 70 years. As Cumbernauld marks its anniversary year, Cumbernauld Theatre is inviting local people to share the stories that make this town what it is, with selected stories helping to inspire a new piece of theatre.

Everyone has their own connection to Cumbernauld. We’d like to hear the moments, memories and experiences that deserve to be remembered and shared.

We’re looking for:

  • Real-life stories connected to Cumbernauld’s history, places or communities.
  • Personal or family stories that deserve a wider audience.
  • Stories of protest, humour, resilience, struggle, triumph or hope.

Stories can be submitted in writing, as an audio recording, as a video, in spoken or written English, or in BSL.

To begin with, please keep your submission to a maximum of 500 words or two minutes of audio or video.

Before you share your story

  • Your story must be true. If it includes living people, you must have their permission to share it.
  • Please consider the impact your story may have on the people involved and whether anyone could be hurt by its publication.
  • By submitting a story, you are agreeing that it may be developed into a piece of theatre or shared as part of the project. If you are not comfortable with this, please do not submit your story.
  • If you are under 18, a parent or guardian will need to provide consent before your story can be considered.
