Production Manager – The Events, October 2024

Overview

Cumbernauld Theatre is seeking an experienced and dynamic Production Manager to lead the upcoming production of “The Events,” written by the acclaimed playwright David Greig. This role demands a highly organised, creative, and motivated individual with a strong background in theatrical production management. The successful candidate will oversee all aspects of the production process, ensuring the highest standards of quality and creativity are met, within budget and on schedule. Cumbernauld’s new cultural home for theatre, cinema, music, comedy and dance offers state of the art facilities alongside performing arts classes and community creative learning projects. With a 270-seat main auditorium, 100 seat studio theatre, 80 seat cinema and dance studio this is an exciting opportunity to help us to build and enhance Cumbernauld Theatre Trust’s relationships with organisations and individuals living and working in the Cumbernauld area and to further cement the new arts venue as a cultural hub for the whole community.

Main duties & Responsibilities

  • Pre-Production Planning: Collaborate with the Director and Design Team to realise the vision of the production. Develop and manage detailed production schedules, budgets, and resource allocation plans.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and coordinate the work of the technical crew, designers, construction teams, and stage management. Ensure clear communication and foster a positive, collaborative working environment.
  • Technical Oversight: Oversee the design and implementation of set, lighting, sound, and costume designs, ensuring they align with the director’s vision while adhering to budgetary constraints.
  • Venue Coordination: Working with the Creative Producer, liaise with Cumbernauld Theatre facilities and staff to coordinate production needs, including rehearsal spaces, performance schedules, and technical requirements.
  • Budget Management: Manage the production budget, including procurement of materials, hiring of crew, and other expenditures. Ensure financial accountability and efficiency.
  • Health and Safety: Ensure all production activities comply with health and safety regulations. Implement risk assessments and safety plans for all aspects of the production.
  • Problem-Solving: Proactively identify and resolve production issues, making decisions that balance artistic integrity with practicality and resource availability.
  • Sustainability Reporting: Lead the sustainability reporting of the production, using the Theatre Green Book.
  • Post-Production: Oversee the strike of the production, ensuring the safe and efficient dismantling of the set, return of rented or borrowed equipment, and proper acknowledgement of all involved parties.

skills / Experience

  • Proven experience as a Production Manager or in a similar role within the theatre industry, with a portfolio of previous work.
  • Experience in working with the Theatre Green Book
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage diverse teams.
  • Excellent organisational, planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Detailed knowledge of technical aspects of theatre including lighting, sound, set design, and construction.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Fee: £2875

Production Dates:

Rehearsals begin: Monday 2 September 2024

Tech Week: Monday 23 September 2024

Performances: Saturday 28 September 2024 – Saturday 5 October 2024
