Deputy Stage Manager

Cumbernauld Theatre Trust (CTT) seeks a Deputy Stage Manager to join the team for the Cumbernauld Theatre Company production of Pinocchio.

Overview

Cumbernauld Theatre is currently seeking an experienced Deputy Stage Manager for our upcoming Christmas Mainstage production of “Pinocchio,” written by Gary McNair with music composed by Brian James O’Sullivan. This production, under the direction of Laila Noble, with Ken Alexander serving as Executive Producer and Fraser Morrison as Creative Producer, promises to be a highlight of the theatrical season.

The ideal candidate will possess exceptional organisational skills, a creative mindset, and a proven track record in theatrical stage management. This role is pivotal to the production’s success, requiring an individual who is not only adept at managing the complexities of live theatre but also committed to facilitating a collaborative and innovative working environment. The Deputy Stage Manager will be integral to realising the director’s vision, ensuring that the storytelling is seamless and that the audience’s experience is both magical and immersive.

We are looking for a professional who is motivated by the challenges of live performance and is eager to contribute to a production of high artistic quality. Your expertise will be essential in bringing this captivating adaptation of Pinocchio to life, embodying the production team’s collective ambition to enchant and engage our audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Rehearsal Support: Assist in managing the rehearsal space, documenting blocking, tracking props, and noting directorial changes.
  • Performance Execution: Assist the Stage Manager in helping to coordinate all backstage activities, including cues and changes during performances, while maintaining clear communication with all departments.
  • Script and Prompt Book Management: Accurately maintain the script, including all cues, technical notes, and changes.
  • Sound and Lighting: Operate sound and lighting cues during live performances using QLab from a Front of House position.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with the director, production team, and technical crew to ensure the vision of the production is realised efficiently and effectively.
  • Show Reports: Compiling and distributing detailed daily show reports to the wider team in conjunction with the Creatives, Stage Management and Production Management.
  • Health and Safety: Help maintain a safe working environment, adhering to all health and safety guidelines.

 

Skills / Experience

  • Proven experience in a similar role within theatre, particularly as a Deputy Stage Manager.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Competency in operating sound and lighting equipment, preferably with experience using QLab.
  • Strong organisational, communication, problem-solving and collaborative skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • A passion for theatre and a commitment to excellence in live performance.

Contract Details

Fee: £575 per week, plus holiday pay

Production Dates:

Rehearsals begin: Monday 28 October 2024

Tech Week: Monday 18 November 2024

Performances: Saturday 23 November 2024 – Saturday 28 December 2024
