We are seeking a competent and experienced bookkeeper to join our creative team on a freelance or fixed term employment basis. As a bookkeeper for an arts charity, you will work closely with the CEO, Management Team, and Accountant to manage financial transactions, controls, and compliance. This is a fantastic opportunity for a qualified business accounting professional with sufficient bookkeeping experience to take a lead role in supporting the company’s financial procedures and preparing financial reports.
Cumbernauld Theatre operates out of Lanternhouse, a vibrant performing arts centre that delivers theatre, cinema, music, comedy, and dance alongside community arts classes and projects and a welcoming café/bar. With good bus links, ample car parking, and a short walk from Cumbernauld town centre, this is a great location to work.
As the ideal candidate, you will work with the accountant to prepare internal finance reports for the Management Team and Board. You will prepare the books for external reporting, including the preparation of year-end statutory accounts and information for audit. You will support the financial control of externally funded projects, keep an eye on compliance, and handle statutory responsibilities for financial filing and reporting to OSCR, Companies House, and HMRC. You will undertake bookkeeping duties, prepare sales invoices, process invoices and payments, and undertake reconciliations.
Once fully introduced to the business, you will be experienced enough to work with minimal direct supervision to meet agreed work targets and carry out duties within the framework of the Charity’s financial and administrative policies and procedures. You will work closely with the Charity’s accountant and CEO and provide bookkeeping guidance to our Finance Administrator.
We are looking for someone good in a team, committed to the charity’s vision and values, and supportive of our ambitions and the delivery of our creative artistic program. If you have at least 1-2 years of experience as a bookkeeper for a small to medium-sized company, previous experience of managing the overall bookkeeping function within a company, and can demonstrate experience of supporting and working with a management team, we would love to meet you. Ideally, you will have knowledge and experience of working in the charity sector, in an environment of public funds management.
Overall, this is a fantastic opportunity for a competent and experienced bookkeeper who is passionate about the arts and is looking to work in a more fulfilling context with a dynamic and creative team.
The opportunity can be offered on a self-employed basis or fixed term 12-month contract basis.
