Each of our Lanternhouse Laughs events is a unique comedy highlight in our calendar, hosted by its very own compère and featuring 3 hand-picked comedy-circuit favourites, guaranteeing to bring the (Lantern)house down!

May’s Lanternhouse Laughs night is compèred by Jay Lafferty with headliner, Gareth Waugh, a regular in the UK’s major comedy clubs and festivals.

Jay has been performing comedy since 2005 working all over the UK as well as performing in New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, Reykjavik and Amsterdam. An experienced compere and stand-up, Jay has an easy manner on stage, instantly connecting with her audience. Jay has worked on a number of hit BBC Scotland and BBC Four radio shows, appearing in BBC’s Scot Squad and is one of the longest-running panelist on Radio Scotland’s Breaking The News.

Sam Lake is a stand-up comedian, writer and presenter. Sam openly shares stories and details from his life as a semi-camp gay man, moving from a small mining village to a big city and becoming a happily married man. Winner of the Leicester Square Theatre New Comedian of the Year 2018 and Hastings Fringe Newcomer of the Year 2018, Sam has recently starred in Dave’s “The Comedy Guide to Life” & All4’s “The Joy of Missing Out” with Tom Allen. His writing has been featured on NewsJack and Mock The Week.

Stephen Buchanan has been described as “a stand-up comedian” by over 4 publications, so it must be true… After winning the Scottish Comedian of the Year competition in 2018, Stephen also became the first ever Scottish comedian to win the coveted BBC New Comedy Award. He has also performed stand-up on Jonathan Ross’ comedy Club (ITV), Comedy Underground (BBC Scotland), The Now Show (BBC Radio 4), The DriveTime Show (BBC Radio 2), and The Arts Hour (BBC World Service).  

Headlining tonight’s Lanternhouse Laughs is Gareth Waugh.
Gareth is an Edinburgh-based comedian and writer. Gareth first set foot on stage in 2010, making an immediate splash in the entertainment industry, being described by the BBC as “One of the fastest rising stars of the Scottish comedy circuit”. 

Doors open at 7.30pm, starts at 8.00pm
