Cumbernauld Through Our Eyes is a Cumbernauld Theatre Trust community photography project created by Nicola Stead, working with senior members of the Cumbernauld community from June to September 2021.
With support from Scottish Government – Empowering Communities Programme – Investing in Communities Fund, the project worked with a group of adults developing photography skills in order to share the social history of Cumbernauld.
The photographs give an insight into people’s lives and reflect on their relationship to the place they call home. The project includes portraits and supplementary photography by Nicola Stead.
The group also produced a zine entitled Cumbernauld Through Our Eyes featuring photographs taken by those who participated in Cumbernauld Through Our Eyes community photography project with a print run of 400 copies, that was distributed to the local community.
The publication, available to download here, features photographs taken by those who participated in Cumbernauld Through Our Eyes community photography project with the artist Nicola Stead.
In addition, the group created a photography exhibition composed of the photographs from the project for the opening event of Lanternhouse in October 2021.
Thanks to Rona Cheyne, Anne Wallace, Helen Scott, Gillian Inglis, Helen Dall, Elizabeth Mathieson, Mae Miller, Andrew Pearson, Jim Kilmartin and Maureen Kilmartin for taking part, sharing their photographs, memories and stories.
