At Cumbernauld Theatre we truly believe in our role as a cultural hub for the communities of Cumbernauld and North Lanarkshire. We want all of the work that we make and programme to speak to the people who live, work, and visit here.

In 2021, Cumbernauld Theatre undertook a Community Research Consultation with Culture Croft to get a better understanding of the people who make up our wonderful town. We wanted to develop a better understanding of what they wanted from us, the kinds of cultural activities they found most exciting, and – most importantly – the challenges they face living in North Lanarkshire. Our research finished in August, last year, and revealed to us some of the critical challenges our communities faced. From the 218 people we consulted with, we found that the following issues were the most prevalent for our region:

With these clear priorities in mind we are focused on developing projects and performances that engage with these issues. As an organisation we are committed to equitable access to the arts and strongly believe in the power of culture as a catalyst for change in our community and the lives of the people who live here. We aim to be open, transparent and accountable to our audiences, participants, staff and the wider sector, which means we will always advertise openly for our year round creative opportunities.
